Information about the Season and Club

· Brewer Travel Basketball Club (BTBC) was formed to provide a competitive environment for kids to play and improve their basketball skills.

· BTBC is made up of a board of experienced coaches, as well as community personal with experience in youth programs.

· Although a separate organization from school sports and Recreation Programs, BTBC will be coordinating and working with each of the local groups. BTBC highly recommends that all kids continue to play for their respective schools and recreation offerings.

· This is a major commitment for players and family. Travel basketball will run from November thru March. There can be up to 1-2 practices a week during the season. (not expected to conflict with school sports) Games will likely be played on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition to home games, there will be games played in other gyms and towns.

· It is the intent of BTBC to practice as often as possible. However during the peak basketball season for all schools (i.e. high school, middle school, etc.) we will be very limited on gym time. There may be times during the season that teams forgo practice during the week. It is also our philosophy that when kids are practicing or playing 5 days a week for their perspective schools, there is no need for our travel teams to double up on practices. We realize (especially a 5&6 travel team) that not all kids are getting in the gym.  Our coaches and club will do the best we can to accommodate some of these kids to keep their skills sharp and improving. There is no set practice schedule or time. It is strictly based on the availability of gym, coach, and of course players other commitments and schedules.

· Tryouts

1.   Tryouts will be closed to spectators and parents

2.   There will be stations setup to evaluate player’s basic skills.

3.   Final Teams will be posted on the BTBC websitewww.brewertravelbasketballclub.com . Teams should be posted the first of the week following the 17th.

4.   Although we are offering teams in all of the above grade levels, teams may or may not be formed depending on numbers of potential players and ability.

5.   In some cases there may be two teams per grade level. Again depending on the number of potential players and ability.

6.   Please remember that BTBC is competitive basketball and may not be for everyone. While it is the goal of the board and all of the coaches to develop each one of our players, the nature of the league requires basic basketball skills and coachability some students just may not yet possess. If a player does not make a team, BTBC encourages that player to sign up for Brewer Recreational Basketball. Please contact the Brewer Auditorium for dates and times. This is a perfect opportunity for kids to learn and improve their skills.

·   Player Fee will Be $150.00 and this is due at registration.(We will hold all money and not deposit until after teams are selected.)  Players will receive a game shirt, & shooting shirt that they can keep at the end of the season. Remainder of fees will go to pay for the league fees, refs, insurance, and all other organizational fees.

· BTBC Teams will be playing in the Eastern Maine Basketball League. www.embbl.org Please go on line and read about the league. EMBBL offers two divisions within each of their age groups. There is usually a B division and A division at all age levels including 3&4. Therefore that is the direction that our club takes when deciding upon team selection.  It has been our experience that this league is very competitive.

· Coaches will be selected by the board. If you have an interest in coaching and have experience in basketball, please feel free to submit a coaching request to BTBC. brewertravelbb@gmail.com  Our coaches will be expected to teach the fundamentals of basketball to help improve all players’ skill sets and abilities. All the while providing a positive experience.

· As the season goes forth, there may be additional travel tournaments that teams/ coaches may decide to sign up for. These tournaments may require additional fees. BTBC provides an opportunity for kids to play and compete in the EMBBL league. After the EMBBL season is over it is entirely optional for teams to go on and play in postseason travel tournaments. It is the discretion of the coach, players, & parents. In some cases kids can be added or dropped from rosters when these tournaments start. Travel tournaments are above and beyond the responsibility of Brewer Travel Basketball Club.

· BTBC will have a mandatory parents meeting with each individual team/coach once the teams are selected. We will be going over league rules, BTBC rules, and coaches/club’s expectations during the season. Also answering any and all questions relating to the upcoming season.

· Again we recommend that all players (those selected and those not) to sign up for Brewer Recreational Basketball. There is no better way to improve than to practice and participate when available! This is very important! With gym time and practice time in high demand, it is always beneficial for your child to receive as much instruction as possible! Especially those young kids just starting to learn the game.
